snooker billiards heritage

An introduction to

Norman Clare's Billiard & Snooker Heritage Collection

Billiard & Snooker museum

Norman Clare (1914-1990) was chairman of E.A. Clare & Son Ltd., the Liverpool based Snooker business. He was steeped in the history of the Billiards & Snooker trade. The collection he started of Billiard & Snooker memorabilia is unique in that his collection encompassed all items with links to the billiards industry. From boxes of tips and chalk, through billiard cues to unusual billiard tables and more! The library he also started has over 480 books and booklets on billiards, snooker and pool, mostly from the UK but also some from the U.S.A. and European Billiards. These books range from copies of old patents concerning Billiards & Snooker to modern books written by today's players.

Over the years researchers have made use of this library and items from the collection have been used by many TV companies. Also the 'Heritage Room', which used to be at the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield used many items from the collection and the 2008 Shanghai Masters Snooker tournament heritage display was set up with the help of items from the collection that Norman started.

This web site is therefore in his memory, passing on information he had researched for articles he wrote for 'Cue world Magazine' in the 1980's. It also contains the lecture notes he used when giving his time to the Coaching Course run by the B & S C C (Billiard & Snooker Control Council) at Lilleshall. In the section 'Other Articles' items have been added about the trade which we hope will be of interest.
